Ice Skating: Take 2

Before we ever left the rink yesterday, the kids were asking if we could go back today. With Bill working and my brother coming to visit sometime in the afternoon, I didn't want to get their hopes up, so I used the classic maybe-that-probably-means-no answer and said, "We'll see."

They were having none of it, however, and asked Uncle Jay if he wanted to go ice skating pretty much the minute he walked in the door. Uncle Jay is pretty much a sucker, so of course he said, "Sure. I've got winter stuff in the car." So, we bundled everybody up and piled into the cars.

Grier and Fletch wore full winter gear today so they could play in the snow. They built a house on a hill that had a flag pole (read that: giant tree limb) and everything.

This was her ice pop, made from a lump of snow and somebody else's hot chocolate straw she found on the ground. Awesome. And I just can't seem to figure out why we all have colds right now...
Also, as a side bonus note about this child, just for memory's sake, she's not very happy about it, but she's going to be taking $5.30 out of her piggy bank to buy me a new Burt's Bees tinted chapstick tomorrow. She ruined the second one in about 3 days today and I've had enough of her messin' with the stuff on my dresser.

Since Grandpa and Grandma were along for this one, even Bristol got her snow gear on when we got there and enjoyed the outdoors. I totally planned on her sitting in the car and watching, but she was not interested. So, then I thought I'd just set her in the snow to be by Grier and Fletch. Nope. She saw that ice and she was goin' for it. She walked all the way across that rink and every time I'd try to kind of herd her back toward the parking lot side, she'd slip around my legs and head the other direction. She was a riot!  I wish these pictures could fully convey the comedy of watching that shape waddle across the ice. I seriously couldn't get enough of her!

"Yeah, Mom, you're not going to get away with leaving me in here while I can see how much fun everybody out there is having."

"This is a little closer to where I'd like to be..."

"But clearly, this is where all the real fun happens!"

Seriously. I'm still giggling and getting tears in my eyes looking at these pictures. That snowsuit is so gigantic! And I don't think I put it on here, but there was one where she was swaying her arms while she walked and I thought I was going to die right then and there. I could just eat her up!

Somehow, the love did not flow both ways when she was the first to get loaded up in the van.
