VBS (Take 2)

Although they didn't necessarily consider it a privilege, I considered it a privilege that Leah and Bo had the chance to participate in a bilingual vacation Bible school that was hosted at one of the Lutheran churches in town. It didn't have quite the flair and pizzazz that Kingdom Rock had at our own church and it was a little lengthy (9am-4pm each day), but how amazing is it that my children can learn about God and worship with other children in more than one language?! I tell you, it brought a tear to my eye more than once when I heard them singing the Lord's Prayer in Spanish and when they realized it didn't matter what language they spoke, the Creator of the universe knew their hearts and found their praises pleasing. At ages 7 and 8, they are already part of such a bigger world than I'll ever be!

Unfortunately, some of the beauty was lost in translation. What was advertised as a "program," to showcase what the kids had learned and worked on all week, was actually a church service in Spanish. Where the kids were supposed to perform a play depicting the story of Moses, they ended up reading bits and pieces of the story from the Bible because not enough of the kids showed up to be able to put the play on. It was all a bit disorganized and really pretty funny to me. Throughout the two hours of not-a-program, Bill and I couldn't help but exchange smiles that said, "Will this ever end?" At the end, Bill told me to feel free not to sign them up for bilingual VBS next year. :)

Leah, reading part of the story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt. Seriously. Even if the "program" was lame, even Bill had to admit that it's pretty awesome our kid can read the Bible in more than one language.

Singing and dancing to one of the songs they learned. Also, as an added bonus, the church where this program was held was a really neat old church that we'd never even noticed downtown before. We all learned something new.
