A few weeks ago, we started talking about upcoming birthdays. (Maybe this will be the year Leah hands out party invitations more than three days in advance. We can dream, right?)
Leah started talking about what she wants to do for her party and then she started planning a Barbie Princess Party for Grier. Well, not to be outdone, Bo started to plan his party and then wanted to plan Fletcher's. Fletcher had his own ideas, though, so Bo started throwing out ideas for Bristol's birthday. I informed him that I'd already been planning Bristol's party for months, so he shouldn't get too excited about the things he was suggesting. Too late. He was already devastated.
While I did feel a little bit bad, it wasn't nearly enough to make me give up all of the planning I've done for Bristol's party. That only left Bill's birthday, the kick-off to Birthday Season, for Bo to plan.
It started with a plan to throw pie in his face. (You can see Bo needs a little more guidance than his sister, the party planning queen, when it comes to planning a party in honor of another person.) Bill does love pie, and he had suggested that a Coconut Cream pie from Josiah's would be a great birthday gift, thus, Pie Fest was born. I made some pie crusts last night and this morning, put together four different pies. After church, we picked up the Coconut Cream and then we just waited for the guests to arrive.

I guess she liked the Strawberry Rhubarb.
"Dad, come out here. We have to tell you something."
The kids told me this morning, they couldn't believe I was going to let them throw pie at Bill and waste it. They know me well. I had no intention of letting them waste a perfectly good pie. I bought a package of aluminum foil pie plates and filled them whipped topping. Close enough.
Dad was full of hugs after he got covered in whipped topping.
Tarred and feathered. This was when Grier and one of our guests started throwing leaves at Bill to stick to the whipped topping.
The end result of a party where you allow children to eat nothing but pie: a broken picture frame, a ridiculous number of paper cups half-filled with water, and a lot of dirty dishes.
