Several weeks ago, I was preparing food to take to some friends who had just had a baby. I always like to include some kind of dessert with meals like that and my dessert of choice is chocolate chip cookie dough because they can freeze it if they don't want to bake cookies right away. On this particular night, though, I had already started mixing ingredients when I realized I didn't have any baking soda. Bill was working, so I was trying to weigh my options and decide what would be the easiest and fastest way to get baking soda- taking five kids into the grocery store didn't seem like the answer. I texted my friend, Christin, who lives a couple of blocks away and didn't hear from her right away. On a whim, I sent Leah and Bo on a walk, just to see if she was there. She was and she just hadn't seen my message or had a chance to respond and say the kids could come on over. Unfortunately, by the time my kids got there, they couldn't remember if they were there for baking soda or baking powder, so Christin decided it would be best to send a little of both. This is what Leah and Bo handed to me when they returned home:
I bet real drug dealers add little smiley faces like that too.
That's the kind of neighborhood we live in, and I hope we never leave it (or Christin and her family either)!

I agree. Let's be neighbors forever.
